Wish you all a very happy Makar Sankranti. This is considered to be a very auspicious day according to our Vedic Scriptures. The Sun God who provides light and heat and lots of crops get benefited out of him considered to go from south to north direction sitting on his chariot pulled by seven horses.
On this auspicious day the great personality Bhisma Pitamah left his body and went to abode of Lord Krishna who was on bed of arrows for eighteen days during the war of Mahabharta.
Although he was in very much painful situation but he waited to Lord Krishna to come in front of him and after seeing Lord Krishna he could leave his body.
Bhisma Pitamah was not an ordinary person but a great devotee of Lord Krishna and one Mahajana out of twelve. It proves that when he was on bed of arrows and blood was continuously running through his body and he was feeling several pains but he was still waiting for Krishna to come.
Although he got boons from Lord Brahma he can chose his death from his own wish but he was awaiting the right time to leave his body and the best time is to remember Krishna while leaving the body.
As Lord Krishna declared in Bhagwad Gita 8.5
अन्तकाले च मामेव स्मरन्मुक्त्वा कलेवरम् ।
य: प्रयाति स मद्à¤ावं याति नास्त्यत्र संशय: ॥ 8.5 ॥
And whoever, at the end of his life, quits his body remembering Me alone at once attains My nature. Of this there is no doubt.
On this day mother Ganga desended on Earth by great King Bhagirathi . Before that mother Ganga was residing on heavenly planet.
This is the festival of charity, austerity and celebrations all across the country. On this day people take bath in holy rivers and visit to sacred places and chant Lord's holy name.
Charity of mix dal rice (khichadi) made in sesame seeds oil is considered to be very auspicious on this day who offered to Lord Narayana.
Donating Scriptures, donation in temples, feeding cows and Brahmans is considered to be a very pious activities on this day.
We must pray to Sun god for our healthy, wealthy and prosperous life.
