Often we puffed up by false ego in influence of illusion and start thinking I am on top of all. But our Vedic scriptures are full of these types of people who thought, I am the one who control the world but they are no more now. We have to be enough intelligent to say no to Maya because Maya is so powerful, sometimes it just give you very attractive way to get into the trap of it.
