The Lord of the Universe - Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra Festival

Today the whole world is celebrating the festival of chariot (Rath Yatra) of Lord of Universe Sri Jagannth along with His elder brother Baldeva Ji and loving sister Subhadra Maiya.

Many of us may not we aware of this festival and about Sri Jagannath, Baleva and Subhadra Maiya but our founder Acharya Srila Prabhupada has already introduced this chariot festival to the globe 50 years back from Newyork city and he taught his disciples Sri Jayananda Prabhuji and His Holiness Jay Pataka Swami Maharaj to celebrate this festival in western country.

In brief Lord Jagannath is none other than Lord Krishna Himself and Baldeva Ji is Anant Sesha (Balram Ji or Laxman Ji) and Subhadra Maiya is sister of both.

He appeared in the form of wood in the age of Kali to shower His causeless mercy on fallen soul like us, because most of us are having no time to go to the temple and see the God.

Jagannath Ji is so merciful He himself come on the road sitting on chariot along with Their brother and sister to give darshan to us. And it is mentioned in many scriptures who take Darshan of Lord Jagannath sitting on chariot, his past many births sin get vanished. And the person who pull the rope of the chariot goes to the abode of Lord Jagannath.

Jagannath Ji is very much pleased by his devotees by just offering simple sweet rice or lemon rice or any fruits or khichadi. On this occasion devotees offered 56 varieties of foods (56 Bhoga) and many types of sweets and other itmes.

In Puri (Odisa) today it is a big festival and declared as a holiday and millions of people come on road to pull the chariot of Lord Jagannath. It is said that this is the second largest gathering in the world as first largest gathering happen at Mahakubh Prayag.

But unfortunately this year we are unable to celebrate Rath Yatra but we can pray to Lord Jagannath to show His mercy on us and save us from this pandemic miseries.

Jai Sri Jagannath, Baldeva and Subhadra Maiya!
