Rukmini Dwadashi - Appearance day of Rukmini Devi

Today we are celebrating holy appearance day of Srimati Rukmini Devi, the eternal consort of Sri Krishna.  She is the one of the foremost of his 16,108 wives of Lord Krishna.

In Maharashtra there is a famous temple at Pandharpur as Vitthal-Rukmini temple, where Lord Krishna in the form of Vitthal and Mother Laxmi in the form of Rukmini Devi.

Rukmini Devi is none other than Goddess of fortune (Laxmi Devi), born as the daughter of King Bhishmaka, Rukmini was the princess of Vaidarbha and the sister of Rukmi.

Having heard of the super excellent qualities of Sri Krishna, she had given her heart to Lord Krishna and wanted to marry him, which, when her parents came to know about it, was supported by her parents, but Rukmi, her brother, was a wicked minded person having friends like the evil Jarasandha and Shishupal and, being envious of Krishna, he decided to give her in marriage to Shishupal against her desire.

When Rukmini came to know of this, she immediately sent a trusted Brahmana messenger to Sri Krishna in Dwarka, and explaining her predicament, she requested him to come kidnap her and accept her as his wife.

Accepting her request, Sri Krishna went and kidnapped her and excepted her as his wife. Lord Balaram also went after Krishna when he got news of the happenings and he fought the battle with Jarasandha and Shishupal while Krishna was kidnapping Rukmini.

Rukmini Devi went on to be Krishna’s most prominent wife and the mother of Pradyumana and 9 other sons and 1 daughter of Krishna.

There was a great saint Sri Tukarama Maharaja who was fully devoted to Lord Vithhala and Rukmini. He was always busy in chanting the holy names of Lord as Jai Jai Ram Krishna Hari with his musical instrument and preached many people in Maharashtra and made them devotees of Lord Vithhala and Rukmini.

We can see the beauty of Lord Vithhala and Rukmini at Vithhala and Rukmini temple at PANDHARPUR, where people comes from many places to just take Darshan of Lord and Devi Rukmini.

We pray to Mother Rukmini on this occasion of Her appearance day, she shower Her mercy on fallen soul like us. So we can get develop love for Lord Krishna.

Jai Sri Vithhala Rukmini.
