What is Damodara (Kartika) month?

Today I receive message of one of the person, who asked me, what is this Damodara month?

I thought let me explain about in brief of this month and reason behind, why we celebrate it?

Basically this month Kartika is known also Damodara month due to pastimes of Lord Krishna childhood, Damodara means Da(rope) and Udara(belly), actual meaning of it is to bind Krishna from rope on his belly.

Once mother Yashoda was feeding her milk to Krishna and Krishna was enjoying, she kept milk on stove to boil, suddenly milk started flowing outside and mother Yashoda kept Krishna aside and ran away towards milk.

Seeing this Krishna got angry and he started breaking all milk pots of butter and milk.

When mother Yashoda returned back and saw, she thought now Krishna become too naughty it's time now I have to give punish to him.

She ran towards Krishna to catch and Krishna also ran, finally Krishna get caught in mother Yashoda hand.

When she caught Krishna, Krishna started crying but due to anger mother Yashoda told to Krishna, now I will teach you lesson, so from now on wards you are not going to do the same.

Mother Yashoda took rope and she started binding Krishna with wooden grinding mortar but she tired to do so after her all efforts.

But when Krishna saw Her mother is helpless to do, he smiled and bound Himself with wooden grinding mortar.

Our Acharya says, no one can bind Krishna from his knowledge, anger and false ego but is someone surrender to Him, Krishna automatically bind.

When mother Yashoda back to her work, Krishna started pulling that wooden grinding mortar and stuck between pair of trees. He pulled down both trees and trees felled down, suddenly two person appeared from both the trees with folded hand praying to Krishna.

There is a history behind the pair of arjuna trees. In their previous lives, the trees were born as the human sons of Kuvera, and their names were Nalakuvara and Manigriva. Fortunately, they came within the vision of the Lord. In their previous lives they were cursed by the great sage Narada in order to receive the highest benediction of seeing Lord Krishna. This benediction-curse was bestowed upon them because of their forgetfulness due to intoxication.

One who recite this pastimes of Lord Krishna in this auspicious month and offer ghee lamps daily on Damodara surely attain the abode of Goloka.

Jai Sri Radha Damodara.
