India is the country of festivals, each and every festival
we celebrate bring some lesson out of it. Today we are going to celebrate Holi-
the festival of Colors and friendship on this day people forget their enemy’s
tendency with others and greet each other’s with joy and happiness.
Before celebration of Colors we burn Holika, there is story
behind burring Holika. There was powerful demon King Hirnyakashyapu who was always
jealous with Lord Vishnu and thinking himself more powerful that all other
living being even Demigods.
But his own son Prahalada was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu
and always busy in devotional service, after hearing this from teachers of
Prahlad Hirnyakashyapu became very angry and warned Prahalada not to take name of Vishnu
further but Prahalada continues doing
the same even after warning of Hirnyakashyapu.
Out of envy from Lord Vishnu Hirnyakashyapu tried to
punish Prahalada and applied so many tricks but he got fail in all and then his sister ask, “My dear brother why you are so much worried I have boon from
Brahama Ji no fire can harm me, I will sit in fire with Prahalada and this way
he will be finished.”
Hirnyakashyapu agreed by his sister idea but when Holika the
sister of Hirnyakashyapu took Prahalada in her lap and entered in burning fire
after some times she lost her life but Prahalada was safe and seeing this
people become so happy and from that day People Burn Holika – the bad qualities
and next day they celebrated Holi.
Although Hirnyakashyapu was so powerful even Demigods used
to fear from him and he used to control them but Prahalada Maharaja only at the
age of 5 was so brave and stand in front of his own father by the power of his
devotional service.
When Hirnyakashyapu aksed Prahalada Maharaja, “Don’t you
fear from your death I can kill you at any moment?” In reply Prahalada Maharaja
told to Hirnyakashyapu, “My dear father birth and death are only in the control
of Krishna and if Krishna will try to kill someone nobody can protect that
person, and if He wants to save some one, no one can kill that person.”
Prahalada Maharaja give us a beautiful message, “if you want
to conquer the fear then devotional service is the only way there is no other
way. And who is the pure devotee of Krishna, no one can harm as Krishna is
always there to protect His devotees.”
Wish you all a very happy & prosperous Holi.
