The Real Meaning of Valentines Day

Yesterday I was hearing H.H. Radhanath Swami Maharaj where he very beautifully explained about the real meaning of Valentines Day and it's not actually Valentines Day but Saint Valentines Day.

"Saint Valentines day is all about for a religious person is giving up everything, being willing to undergo torture and killing in the service of the lord. That’s what Valentines day means to a vaisnava, or to a devotee."
- HH Radhanath Swami

We all celebrate this day and it's very special for us, we eagerly await for this day, but do we know the exact meaning of this day? Actually, nobody knows the reality of it. There was one Rome Saint called Saint Valentines who was against this so called love and try to explain people if you love someone better you marry with her and be loyal to her.

Actually, Saint Valentines was very much impressed about Indian culture and traditions of one women, marriage and he studied a lot on it and said to his people if you want to keep woman with you, you should marry with her and give her love and respect so she will be more loyal to you and this way you both can live a happy life instead of living in a relationship with many women without marriage.

Many of the people agreed with Saint Valentines and started getting married to one woman and this way the majority of the people accepted this movement, but Clodius the Roman King was against on Saint Valentines philosophy and he wanted to kill Saint Valentines.

One day he made plans to hang Saint Valentines in front of all the people and that day was 14 Feb 498 and because people were so much affected by Saint Valentines so they started celebrating this day in his memory but after so many decades people removed Saint from it and it has only become Valentines day.

Basically, in India this concept can never applied because our culture is not like them, but we people started celebrating without even knowing the reason behind it and does it realy require to us?

If you want to love some one you don't need any special day to express it and if you love some one there must be 5 qualities in you:

1. Listen: Love means to listen and understand the person.

2. Appreciate: Love means to appreciate that person.

3. Serve: Love means to serve the person not being served by that person.

4. Gift: Love means to gift some one and the best gift A woman needs is Care, Love and Protection and a man needs Responsibility, Trust and Love.

5. Touch: Love means to feel and hug someone when they need you.

Wish you all a very happy Saint Valentines day.
