Most of the people might not be aware of Lord Nityananda because He is more popular in the Gaudiya Vaishnav community. Today is Nityananda Trayodashi, the appearance day of Lord Nityananda. He appeared 500 years ago to help the Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's mission and meet with Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in Sridham Mayapur.
Those day's Vedic culture and devotional activities were almost gone and people were too much addicted in rituals. Adwaitacharya praised to Lord Vishnu and Lord Vishnu pleased with him and appeared in most lovable incarnation as Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and along with Him his brother Nityananda.
Lord Nityananda, in his previous incarnations appeared as Lord Balarama, the beloved brother of Sri Krishna, and as Lakshmana, the younger brother of Lord Rama. Lord Sri Krishna descended in Kali Yuga as Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the golden avatar, to deliver the people of this age through Sankirtan, the congregational chanting.
Although Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu showed His mercy upon the fallen soul, but Lord Nityananda is even more merciful than the Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who showed his causeless mercy upon most fallen soul in Kaliyuga.
Lord Nityananda appeared Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's mission all over the world as Sankirtan movement and delivered most fallen soul. Lord Nityananda is as Guru and without surrendering him we can not get the love of Krishna or Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
There is one incident come when two Brahmin brothers Jagai and Madhai who were fully involved in sinful activities attacked on Lord Nityananda. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu became very angry and about to Kill, but Lord Nityananda stop Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and told, "We are here to deliver fallen soul of this Kaliyuga and they suppose to commit these kind of mistakes because of ignorance, so please forgive him."
In all four ages there are way diffrent-diffrent way to please lord i.e. in Satyuga there was meditation and austerity in Treta Yuga there was Yajna (Sacrifies) in Dwapar Yuga there was Deity Worship but in Kaliyuga there is only Lord's holy name.
Lord Nityananda spread Lord's holy name as "Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare." to the world and taught how to get love of God.
So, if you read Jagai and Madhai story you will come to know, how they were but rather than killing them Lord Nityananda accepted both of them and delivered.
So, today we pray in the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda to deliver from this bondage of Birth, Death, Old Age and Diseses and give shelter to us.
